Alexander Responds to Administration’s New Drilling Moratorium
07/14/2010
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Obama administration has again issued a moratorium on deepwater drilling, this time extending the date to November 30, 2010. U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, issued the following statement in response:
“The administration’s decision to proceed with a second moratorium is a tremendous disappointment. Again, they have let us down in this time of crisis. Even after the president’s own commission of experts disagreed with the first moratorium, which was invalidated by two federal courts, the White House continues to push forward its misguided ideology.
“This latest move to impose another job-killing moratorium is a slap in the face to all of us who have been working diligently to find a solution, clean up the oil, and preserve the jobs and way of life on the Gulf Coast. President Obama often speaks of creating jobs, but when given the opportunity to save them, his actions are contradictory. While I agree that we must ensure the safety of the rigs, instating a second moratorium is not an appropriate response to dealing with the crisis. Instead, it will inflict even more harm on a region already struggling to survive.”
